Trailing Edge
Trailing Edge - is a sound installation built around a spatial configuration of exposed loudspeaker cones, some of them vintage, some custom-built. The piece is composed from recordings made at the wind turbines at Neeltje Jans, one of the largest dams in the Netherlands. The installation captures the aerodynamic turbulence generated by modern wind turbines in the Dutch landscape, not only the audible mechanical sound of the blades, but the pressure waves and vortices shed from the blade tips that propagate through the surrounding air and ground, interacting with the turbulent fields of neighbouring turbines.
Decoding the material conditions of this sound, the piece has formed in response to the acoustic environment of the exhibition space at Ekard. The installation is presented alongside large-format photographs by Bjarne Bare.
